G’day! I’m Jiyou Park (b.1996). Based in New York, I create interactive installation works using technology. I was born in Australia, grew up in Korea, and have lived across different cultural contexts, which has led my practice to continually explore how distinct worlds meet and form relationships.
Materials are a vital point of departure in my practice. I work with materials that symbolize both the artificial and the natural—such as glass and stone—alongside light, studying their physical properties and symbolic meanings while experimenting with how they generate unique sensations & possibilities for interaction. For me, materials are not merely tools, but active agents that shape both the process of making and the experience of the work.
Buddhist philosophy is another key source of inspiration. I reinterpret concepts such as Indra’s net and temple spaces through a contemporary lens, exploring how material and space can embody memory, spirituality, and reflection. This philosophical foundation allows my work to extend beyond formal experimentation into a space of contemplation.
At the core of my practice lies connection. I employ interactive systems and physical computing to integrate the people’s movements and perceptions into the work itself. Through this approach, relationships emerge—between people, between time and place, and between the visible and the invisible—inviting people to experience the subtle threads that weave us together.
